Transmission tunnel inside car gets 'hot' - is this normal?

I just made a 45 mile trip and noticed after just a few miles that the carpeted part of the transmission tunnel inside the car between the drivers and passenger seats felt hot to the touch. It felt warm at the front of the ****pit - beside the ashtray, and much hotter towards the back of the seats - below the stowage compartment/mobile phone housing. I am driving a new E320 CDI.

Anyone else noticed this?
thanks in advance for yr help guys.

Haven't noticed it, but then I can't say that I've felt the carpeted parts of the, um, roosterpit whilst or after-whilst driving the car. I haven't peeked under the car to see how the exhaust pipes are routed; that might provide an explanation.

We're not allowed to use the word "coquepit" here?

Seems my language is too risque for this forum! Thanks for the response though. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this problem.

Not normal for any 211. Have it checked out!

Benzboy, when you say not normal, do you also mean if the centre tunnel is warm to the touch?
