Cool W211 Rear SAM Module (blew off)

Hi Colleagues,

I hope you had a nice Christmas break.

I have recently purchased a Mercedes W211 320CDI 2003 from my friend who connected the batter the other way around and potentially blew the rear SAM module.

I can see the plastic has melted and there is currently SBC/ESP error + the radio and heating doesn't work.

The part number of the module on my car is: 211 545 20 01. I have found a similar module on eBay, but the part number is slightly different pn: 211 545 51 01 or another pn: 211 545 22 01), so the question is whether it would work and is it worth trying?

Also, I am aware that some modules might need programming. My VIN is WDB2110262A241409. Is there any way to check if I would need to programme it? Is there any quick way to do it without going to the proper Mercedes garage?

There is also a suspicious cable in blue as in the photo above. Would you know what it is for as clearly someone was playing with it ;(

Many thanks for any support you can provide.

There's been issues with that SAM before, as it looks like someone has relocated the relay with that blue taped cable harness. That relay is for rear window heater circuit.

Hi Heguli,

Thanks for your reply.

Any idea why would someone relocate a rear window heater circuit? It appears not very important to the car's functionality, so why touch this?

Do you have any comments regarding me buying a SAM on eBay that differs slightly from the part number on my car (SAM in my Mercedes: 211 545 20 01) -> available on eBay 211 545 51 01 and 211 545 22 01.

Cheers,

Martin

To me, it's quite important to have a working rear window defogger, just to see through the window when I'm parking the car for example.

Unfortunately, for the part numbers I don't know. On my project, I've sourced all the modules with the same numbers so I don't need to get any programming done.

Heguli, may I ask what issues on a dash you had when your SAM mobile wasn't working?

I have noticed that the radio doesn't start, the heating module above the radio inside the car doesn't and I have an SBC error.

I wish I could find exactly the same SAM part as on my car to avoid having to programme it. I don't even know if any of the mechanics in my area could programme it or whether I would need to take the car to the proper M<ercedes garage ;(

Many thanks,

My car went from working one to dead one in a flash (literally). Still not driveable, but it's getting there.
