Differential oil specs

Hi
Just after some info regarding the differential oil for my 2007 W211 E280.
I'm going to be doing a full fluid and filter replacement soon.
Is there a site where you can find out all the MB specs for fluids etc? Some of the oil manufacturers websites here in Australia state 75W-85 full synthetic gear oil. Other manufacturers state "refer to dealer"!!
Brand recommendations are also welcome. I think the best would be Mobil 1 gear oil. I can get it for around AUD$20 per quart.

BeVo

Google Daimler BeVo and / or download the app. It’s their fluid spec website and database.

Thanks for that. But how do I use it? How do I know what sheet number to use?

I'd buy it from the dealer. Here it's a dollar difference from the dealer to the closest wrong grade at the local autoparts store. For one or 2 containers, it's not worth having an 'every penny is a prisoner' attitude.

I went to three dealers and they didn’t know which differential oil to use. You need to tell them based on the proper viscosity that they have in stock. Base model differentials don’t have a specified change interval from MB so the dealers don’t have a clue (as usual).

former bevo site, now named the Operating Fluids site, has an “overview” sheet for each fluid. This shows spec number by either engine or vehicle model.

Use the spec number from above to read the spec sheet document. This typically lists commercial products and viscosities. In the case of differential oil I think only MB branded fluids are permitted. Read my GLE Ownership Report. I changed both diff and transfer case fluids in 2021.

Starting with 231.1, then standard differential is what I think you’re looking for. Making it 235.7.

235.7 sheet lists the following.

Fuchs TITAN SINTOPOID FE 75W-85
MB 235.7 FE-Hypoidgetriebeöl A 001 989 83 03-
MB 235.7/ 235.74 FE-Hypoidgetriebeöl A 001 989 33 03-
ExxonMobil Mobilube FE 75W-85
ExxonMobil Mobilube FE Plus NG 75W-85

You can get M1 gear oil at Walmart far cheaper than any dealer. There's nothing special about Mercedes differential. It's not even a limited slip.

I thought the viscosity was slightly different with Mobil 1 vs the MB spec, might not matter though although I think someone claimed that they got better gas mileage with the MB spec fluid vs aftermarket. That in itself might be hard to believe. As someone said earlier, the price difference is so minimal, just go with the MB fluid. Normally if you post your vin someone here might be able to look up the correct fluid in EPC or you could get a knock off copy of the EPC/WIS on eBay and try and figure it out yourself. I think you only need one or two quarts of it at most. Any savings is probably eaten up by shipping costs so either order it online with a big order from an MB dealer or just pick it up directly at the dealer.

I think the real question is what is the Mercedes spec for that fluid? Can't look up to see if it's on the spec list if you don't know what list to look at. I think there's a few specs where there's only one Mercedes fluid listed. As mentioned earlier, it's only going to be one or two quarts of fluid, mind as well pick up the right one from the Mercedes dealer. Shipping kills any savings on buying any cheaper/better aftermarket fluid.

I have a 2008 E350 (W211) in Australia
Mercedes sells at $ 100+ a litre as per current price and available on order
Alternative is LM 85W90 (Mineral) approx. $20 a litre

75w as I understand is the new synthetic one compared to older spec of 85W
