w211 E350 PZEV fuel tank replacement options - definitive answers only
I have spent a lot of time researching thread after thread on this subject and the result has yielded zero definitive information. I'm hoping we can consolidate some good, useful information in this thread for others to research in the future.
Purchased a used e350 PZEV car. Tank was previously replaced by MB under warranty at 175K in 2016. Looks like the fuel pump or something in the tank is failing again - VERY slow to build pressure on cranking and loses fuel pressure instantly upon turning off the car requiring 45 seconds of cranking before the car starts. Warranty on the new tank after recall replacement is the standard MB parts warranty, so that is expired now too. I am looking for a solution OTHER THAN replacing the entire tank. Between my time and the cost of even a used PZEV tank, its probably more than the car is worth. I did notice that someone had previously cut open (and jb welded) the tank; so I dont mind cutting it open again at this point, but I dont know how the tank/pump/sender works in the w211 benz pzev setup specifically in regards to retaining fuel pressure.
I know the internal pump/sender is not available separately from benz, so I would like to see if anyone has any information on an aftermarket pump replacement that would match/exceed the factory specs. Thank you.
