Arrow Blower motor sometimes not turning on (blower motor regulator: pic)?)

I replaced our 09's blower motor I believe last year. It was making some sqeaks but zero issues turning on/off or adjusting the fan speed. I replaced it with an OEM blower motor and zero issues. I did NOT replace the blower motor regulator.

Fast forward today. I go to turn the air on/fan on and I hear nothing. Thinking I had it set to the wrong position I put it on the tpo vnetns and cranked up the fan to max speed and still nothing. I shut it off/on..adjusted and can hear the flapper doors behind move but no air.

I keep the fan speed right in the middle. Leave my driveway and by the time I am at the end of the street air is coming out at that speed. I can turn it up and down and it works. I shut it off, waited a few seconds, turned it back on and nothing. Then about a minute later it turns on.

I ran it through STAR and see this message pressently as a stored fault. Is this why the blower motor is sometimes turning on or at a delayed reaction? The blower motor regulator is original to the car (13 years old) and I figured I didn't have to change that when I changed the blower motor because I had never experienced this problem before... Just seems strange that this is the case. Note that the car hasn't been driven during the winter. So it was under a cover plugged in for the 2-3ish months.

STAR Fault:

If I go through the reset in the HVAC control I can hear things happening and then the blower works fine. As soon as I shut it off, then turn it back on ,it either doesn't blow, or it's delayed by several minutes.

I just wanted to be sure before buying an OEM blower motor regulator to make sure that my thinking is correct.

Thanks much,
-Nigel

Solution?

I have been experiencing this EXACTLY issue to a T. Precisely every word is what I have happening on my 14 E550. Did you ever resolve the issue? What was it? I’m so anxious to fix this, as I live in Idaho where it’s currently snowing with single digit temperatures.

I leave it in auto mode and fan mode set to 3 or 4 and it start immediately when the car starts. Sometimes it stops midway other times it just keeps blowing. I haven't got a clue why it is doing this. I've replaced the blower motor 3 times now all being brand new OEM. I've replaced the blower motor regulator2-3 times all being OEM. I can run STAR diagnostics, and everything checks out fine. I tend to keep the temp set now at around 74 or so. I've noticed if I turn it up super high or super low then it decides to not turn on. When I was getting errors, it would mention the blower motor regulator.. but I find it very hard to believe that two times being replaced with OEM and being new there would be a problem. I'm just chalking it up to German over engineering. My 17-year-old Toyota Solara has never had an issue like this at all nor have I had to replace the blower motor or regulator..lol. I turn it on and it just always works. Part of me likes the simplicity of that, while the other part finds that the Germans tend to overcomplicate things that don't need to be an issue, but then turn into an issue because of how they engineered it...

I replaced the fan & resistor on my 2005 CLS55 not too long ago (preventative). The fan had way more resistance than the new fan, which isnt strange after about 18-19 years. Easy swap, takes about 40 mins

Fan & resistor cost about 110 euro

2x T30 bolts for the footwell cover
4x T20 for the fan cover
4x t20 for the fan to fan housing
2x T20 for the resistor to fan

Such a bummer there hasn’t been an exact fix to this. I definitely agree with the over engineering possibly being the ghost in the system. I took out my fan and inspected and cleaned it but seems to spin pretty freely, with slight resistance. I ordered a new regulator but for now every time the fan doesn’t kick on, I just remove the air box under the hood and spin the fan by hand and will kick back on. Pretty dang annoying to say the least 🤷
