Tried Replacing the Headlight Switch Surround

I tried replacing the faceplate for the headlight switch today on the e55 today. I watched a YouTube video of a guy saying there is a spring that releases a knob. AIN’T NO SPRING MAN! Got really frustrated and whipped out the dremel. After looking at it, it looks like there’s a block molded into the stick that’s attached to the knob. Not sure how you’re supposed to get the knob out, but the knob needs to come out first due to the faceplate having a lip that goes behind the knob. Why does it do this? Not sure, but it does seem extremely stupid. As if the 4 clips holding the plate in place were not enough. Anyways, that’s my experience with the matter. I’m all ears if there’s a trick to it that my bonehead couldn’t figure out. Really a shame because that new cover looks way better than the one going into the car.

I was able to do mine but that first step of removing the knob is frustrating. It has been too long since I did it to remember any points, sorry.
