W211 steering wheel upgrade to a 2013 steering wheel
hello guys, i would like to put a steering wheel from a w205 i think on my w211 e220 late 2004 model, i was wondering if i could just cut the 3 wires from its 12 pin and connect them to the 3 pin of the w211, or if i could fit the w211 motherboard plates on the newer steering wheel and just conect the buttons cables on them,
i've seen in this video theyre car has the same steering wheel and conections as the w211, in the steering wheel theyre switching it to they have some sort of adapter
that short answer doesn't suffice tho. .i already have the 2005 column has it says in that post wich i already read and goes against several youtube videos in where no change of steering column is needed and no wiring harness is changed (they cut and soldered the cables) so you could elaborate a little.. like do you mean another car model steering column? wich wiring harness as that would actually help
Alright folks for those wondering what needs to go into the swap.
1. you need to buy a steering wheel from someone who knows the programing required for the buttons to even function ( both Rucarbon and Carismo design can get you sorted with this, but only for the 2020 wheel, if you want the w205 prefacelift wheel you will need to go to 77performace, but that whole swap will cost you more than what your car is actually worth)
2. you need to purchase a clockspring https://www.ebay.com/itm/11394346715...3ABFBMwO6Y7PBg
3. you will need a wiring harness from the dealer part number: 2114404509
4. rewiring on the harness goes as follows:
old wiring: new wiring
pin: 4 yellow 2 --> pin 5 yellow2
pin: 3 yellow 1--> pin 6 yellow 1
pin: 1 green 1---> pin 4 green 1
pin: 2 green 2 ---> pin 3 green 2
The rest of the wires you leave as is
5. you will need to pop out the green and yellow tabs out of your oem airbag and replace them with the geen and yellow tabs in the new airbag: this will allow you to use your oem airbag harness with the new bag
When you purchase the wheel make sure to let your builder know you have an 04 but you are upgrading your hardware to a facelift
It is also important to know. none of the above is required if your car was built 11/04 or newer as these were already retrofitted with the new hardware allowing the function of facelift wheels
without the wheel you are looking to spend 100-150 in parts

my car is from 08/11 but it can still have the old column right

Nonsense bro, there's no programming. It's plug and play once you swap the column and harness. https://imgur.com/a/CtdpRoF

you have an updated coumn. so for a 2020 wheel for example you dont need anything else other than the wheel itself along with programming.
the reason i recommend you spend the money and get a wheel is because the base needs to be shaved down to fit your oem spline. you can do it youself with a cut off wheel but if you mess up itll end up costing you more than if you just ordered the wheel.

ok i think i'm not understanding you tho, let's go slow you're saying my car probabily has an updated column and nothing is needed, then u say i have to shave the spline of the steering wheel, i was thinking that having an updated column wouldnt need to shave the spline
the only reason there would be no prgramming is if for some reason you wanted to swap in a whole w205 steering column into a w211, although you may need to activate some things in star. regardless itll be overkill

w211 2003-2009 has the exact same steering column, 2003-2004 has old electronics
2005+ has new electronics. meaning if you wanted to you can put on a w211 facelift wheel on a prefacelift car. the electronics wont work but it will bolt up.
now w204, w205 and w205 facelift have a different design for the steering wheel spline. it WILL NOT just bolt up to the car, there is metal in the way. that metal will need to be removed.
shoot me a txt ill show you what im talking about. a comparison between a w211 wheel and a 2020 wheel (w205 facelift) 978 844 32five1
another option is actually upgrading your steering column to a w205 but i dont know what nonsense goes into that swap...cant be fun
