When will there be an E350?

Does anybody have any factual information about when M-B will offer the 350 engine in the W211? My guess is that it would replace the 320. TIA

There's no definite date scheduled yet, but here's the latest information.

Apparently we should see it soon, Either as next years model, or MY06.

It will probably come out just after the CLS starts showing up in the states.

I believe US production begins in January so E350's could be here by February or March at the latest.

If it's the same 3.5 liter 6 as the ML, I would skip to an E500 for sure. It may be more powerful than the 3.2, but the motor in my '04 ML loaner isn't anything l expected: Smooth, quiet, or thrifty! Not impressed by this ML (or the 3.5) at all.

The engine in the ML is different, and is a 3.7.

Seems kind of odd that they're bringing out the 3.5L engine in the E without the 5.0L's replacement doesn't it? The E350 probably won't any less than a 1/2 second slower to 60 than the E500, I would guess (the 320 is 1.2 sec slower, according to official estimates). I would've thought that it (as well as the current V8's replacement) would be out at the earliest for the MY '06 refreshes in August next year, since the new S class is supposed to be out around that time and should have the new V8. I guess MB is willing to canabalize some E500 sales for a while.
Does this mean that the CLK is also getting the new 3.5 come January, too, or is that soldiering on with the 3.2?

yes, e350 is coming but it depends on mbusa's decision for importing it in for US customers.

there is a same issue in CLS board, NO CLS 350

due to

1. both 350 and 500 have 7G-TRONIC
2. 500(306 hp) only 34 horse power more than 350 (272 hp) and 0 to 100 km/h 500 (6.1 seconds) vs 350 (7.0 seconds)

e350 may kill e500 by price and gas consumption, etc. so it is a mbusa call now. (of course, 350 replaces 320 but mbusa dose not want to see 350 kills 500.)

My bad. According to MBUSA, the 3.5 is 268 hp, 258 tq. The 3.7 in the ML "350" (what gives there?) is 232 hp, 254 tq. The 3.2 is only 221 hp, and 232 tq. So the E350 would still be almost 40 hp down on the 500 and more importantly, 80+ Lb/ft, so there would still be a considerable difference. Probably not enough to justify the price premium?

I used CLS 350 instead of ML 350 to estimate e350. (ML model cannot have the same power as her other sisters.)

The 268 HP number is the figure given by MB for the SLK, so I figure it won't change much for any given model swap. This is a DOHC 4 valve motor and it HAS to be smoother/quieter than the 3.7 in the ML . Still isn't a V-8 though.

This is not the same V6 as the engines in the ML. The 3.5L V6 found in the new SLK has DOHC heads and variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves. The V6 found in the ML has a SOHC head with 3 valves and two spark plugs per cylinder. The new DOHC V6 will have 4 valves per but 1 spark plug per cylinder. Making 268 hp @ 6000 rpm and 258 lb-ft @ 2400, this new engine will add much needed oomph to the E series. It is my hope that this new engine will sound better than the current 3.2L V6 found in many models.

I believe that the MBUSA will bring the E350 to the US. In order to stay competitive against other brands that have more power, MBUSA will need the new V6 in their cars. I also believe that the V8 will also get an increase in power sometime soon. It's only a guess but it seems logical in order to justify the price of the E500 model.

Any dealer on this board?

Perhaps a dealer on this board, or someone who has good relationship with a dealer can call and confirm the start of order date? Thanks.

Who cares when will there be an E350

There is an E500 RIGHT NOW
There is an E320 CDI RIGHT NOW
Both of which have a lot more torque on hand than any stupid V6.

Not very many parts if any will be interchangeable from the 3.2 SOHC 3 valve non variable valve timed engine into the new more sophisticated 3.5; so when MB uses up enough existing hardware from the old technology 3.2 I'd imagine they will release the 3.5 for the E, CLK etc. Also since the SLK will preview this engine for the US I'd also imagine they'll wait for the public to find any "bugs" before putting it in its best selling E class.

Looking purely at the numbers, it is about time MB came out with a modern DOHC V6 that is capable of running with the VQ series engines from Nissan. I wonder what BMW's response to this will be, after all Audi now has a Direct Injection 3.1L V6 making 255hp in their latest cars.

BMW's response is pretty amazing. Among other things they are using an electric water pump. Now doesn't that make sense?

Good to hear that BMW is keeping their inline or straight 6 design. I've always been a fan of straight6 engines due to it's smoothness. It was sad to see it go in the W124 series.
