Weird sound when starting a cold engine
May I know what would be the issue that caused the engine to sound like this when starting up cold?
It runs and drives just fine, just the start-up sound had me worried. I had my local mechanic diagnose the issue but it came back with a quote for a replacement engine.
My model is 2009 Mercedes-Benz W211 E230 Avantgarde. I also attached the video regarding the issue.
Would appreciate any input and opinions. Thanks in advance!
James

Let me as you:
- how many miles?
- what type of engine oil in use ?
- tranny ATF service ?
- Not (variable valve timing) rattle ?
- Serpentine belt/idlers/tensioner ?
- Oil changed: 5K, 10k, 15k or yearly?
If it ain't broke, drive it easy

1. 95k km or 60k miles
2. M272 V6 2.5L
3. Don't really remember.
4,5. Not sure where the sound came from.
6. Oil change every 8k km or 5k miles

Find a better specialist who can honestly repair your car but no this joker!
not priceless golden parts
You're looking at tensioner and VVT gear etc... this should not break the bank: $1000 to $1700 with loads of gravy.
Now you're equipped to see through poker face pricing.
Today I myself got quoted a $1,000 estimate for $100 PART + about ONE hour labor... squarely unbelievable!

If anyone has an idea of what's going on with the engine, do leave your comments!
Appreciate every piece of advice and help that I can get to keep my W211 healthy.
Thanks!
James
