No updates from anyone?

BTW, not to threadjack, but where is the extra 12V socket in the trunk?

**UPDATE FROM MY APPOINTMENT MBdealership**

Calibrated Weights were adjusted success!

and the dealership even loaned me a brand new G500 to cruise around the city to run errands while the technicians worked on my car. so im hoping the seatbelt chime will never come back to haunt me again.

Got the car back. Dealer calibrated passenger sensor AND deactivated the chime/warning light. Gave them a list of threads from here to help them figure out what to do. The service advisor read through them, but also told me that "people on message boards speculate but don't know the actual problem." He said the design is actually such that if you have anything over 1 lb on the seat, it'll give a warning. If true, that's kind of a crappy overengineered design on the part of the Germans in Stuttgart.

BTW, I wonder if the 12V plug in the trunk was decontented in '05s... Still can't find it.

I guess this is my first official problem with this car. It started on Saturday when I placed my bible and my suit jacket on the seat, chimed like crazy. Then after that, has been chiming off and on with nothing on the seat. I've had stuff on the seat before that weighed over a couple pounds and never had this problem. I'm guessing it must be some sort of bad sensor or something. Calling my SA right now.

Well, I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning and they have a rental reserved for me (hopefully it's not a Neon, not that I have anything against Neons but if I wanted to drive around in one I would have bought one for crying out loud). The lady I spoke with told me it's a very common problem but they will have to take some time to investigate the issue and see if any sensors need to be replaced or if they can just be tweaked. I don't want them to just turn off the chime as that would defeat the purpose of being able to tell if my wife has her seatbelt on or not.

When I brought our car in, the service guy said it's designed to chime if more than one pound is placed on the seat. He just disabled the warnings, because I guess he didn't want to be bothered again (we brought it in like 3 times)...

But if there isn't anything on the seat then that means it's not working right. Disabling it is unacceptable to me. I could see if you were trying to drive around with a 20lb. briefcase on the seat but that isn't the case. They better not try and give me that BS or I'll demand a new E350 replacement car. :p

Disabling it could be dangerous if you have a passenger who is not wearing their belt. In that case the car will assume there is no passenger and not fire the airbags on that side.

No, I think he just disabled the warning. I seem to recall him telling me that everything would still work properly. I'll have to check whether the airbag off light is lit the next time I sit in the passenger seat without buckling...

Had a similar problem with my car. When the passenger got out of the car, while the engine was still running, the seat belt warning light and chime came on, while the "airbag off" light turns on signaling that there is no one in the seat. As I drove off the chime and light stayed on. Took it to the dealer and they said they had to adjust the sensor with their computer system. Works fine now, took no more than 45 mins.

I've got the same exact issue I took it to the mechanic said theres a weight sensor inside the seat that needs to replaced, if anyone knows a cheaper/DIY fix please let me know.

As I see it and with your cheap logic you have a variety of choices:

cut the wires

place a 100 pound red stone ball in the seat(find a friend and rob one from Target)

remove the seat and nail a beach chair to the floor

remove both seats and weld a Freight Liner bench seat

My E350 started doing it. The problem finally got bad enough to aid diagnostics. In other words, it did it all the time. Turned out to be a bad buckle switch on the drivers side. $217 and a couple hours to replace the buckle fixed it.

2007 ML 350 4Matic
I know this is an E-Class forum but, I have the same issue in my 2007 ML350. Seat belt chimes randomly. I can't seem to find any pattern between weight in the passenger seat or not. Sometime it doesn't go off and other times it won't shut up. My research has led me here, where it seems to be either a calibration of WSS in the seat or faulty seat belt buckle. Can anyone advise on how I trouble shoot to narrow this down? I can replace the seat belt buckles myself. However, I don't know which one is bad. They are pretty expensive so, I don't want to take a guess. Nor do I want to pay dealer labor rates to have them do something I can do. Any help is appreciated!
