Yes! Rule number 1080: if one side goes the other is soon to follow.

Do you prefer a particular brand? Arnott or Bilstein?

Arnott for myself. Comes with a lifetime warranty so if there is any problem, you can get them replaced. Having said that you could also purchase Bilsteins through FCP Euro. FCP gives a lifetime warranty on most things they sell so if the Bilsteins have any issues, you can get them replaced. I have not noticed any difference in the ride between the Arnott and Bilsteins.

If you’re switching to Arnott both sides (whether it be front or rear). Note MB requires both sides be replaced @ 40,000 miles >.

Thank you to those that replied. I ended up having 4 new arnott struts put on my 2004 e500. Both on the right side of the car had failed. My mechanic said most of his customers dont change them in pairs because of cost but I wanted to. Cost was about $2200 for parts and 1000 for labor.

It rode great! Very smooth and just like I remembered. Except… it felt like maybe I need an alignment, but having said that I might have just gotten used to driving it with the bad struts for the 2 weeks or so, before I was able to get it fixed. I’ll drive it more before deciding that.

I recommend you calibrate the ride height. Not difficult but I found that whenever I replaced air springs the ride height calibration was off (generally too low with camber too negative and outside recommended range). Not difficult using STAR/Xentry and an inclinometer app on your cell phone. I've posted on this multiple times if you use advanced search.
