New W211 Owner
Hello!
Just acquired a 2006 E320 CDI from a relative with 242K on it...only real issues seem to be a bouncy lock, one small crack in the driver's side door wood, and just some needed cleaning. Paint (Carbonite Silver) is great, Grey/Burl interior is excellent, no dings, scratches, etc. Big stack of service records, was a former MB certified car in a former life. Adult/Senior owned (uncle is 75), very clean. Just put some 18in Rial E55 knockoffs on it to sport it up a bit. Not sure if I will do anything else to the exterior yet. This is Benz #3 in the stable...Wife has a '13 GL450 and the summer driver is a '15 R231 SL400.
Been looking around the forum at radio upgrades...making my head swim. It does not have the upgraded system, however it does have NAV. Trying to decide if I want to try and splice in the factory SIRIUS, go the installer route with an aftermarket unit, do a Dension BT adapter, or try my luck with a W211 Chinese setup I see some have gone with, which looks great, but the quality seems hit/miss and also looks difficult to install...no idea if a local guy would even touch that.
Anyway, I'm just beginning to learn more about the car...my first W211. Was looking for an E55, but this car was too good to pass up and the price was right. I'm an old wrencher (52) and am looking forward to working on my first diesel. Looking at maybe lowering it slightly, but not sure if I want to bother, and it appears it isn't as simple as "sport springs"...looks like a bunch went with coilovers and I'm not sure I'm ready for that quite yet.
Pic attached...just washed and filling up (at the correct pump)!
Hope to connect with some of you!
Thanks,
John

The unit was $700, the installation $1000, but that also included the installation of a dash cam. It’s pretty expensive installation because they need a special cable set to get around the fibre-optic system. The car comes with… If it was a Toyota it would’ve been about half that.

Right? I’ve had many Porsches as well and they are at times painful to maintain. On my 2015 Carrera, I had a door rattle…took the door card off and noticed that someone had done some work and left off some of these small rubber pieces that absorbed vibrations…they were probably the size of a nickel. Needed 4. $45 each. Probably cost the manufacturer $.02 to make. Insane, but you pay to play. Sadly, the parts and labor don’t depreciate like the cars….

Nice ride!
I put a Kenwood unit in my 2008. Crutchfield had all plug and play adapters for it so the steering wheel controls, blue-tooth, and Sirius/XM were easy..
Looks factory original.
Nice pre-DPF diesel so you don't have to worry about all the headaches that can cause. I haven't had any issues, but I worried when I paid too much attention to hearsay and alarmists posting the sky is falling.
Change the fluids. Yes the trans and diff fluids, too. It will keep her running smoothly into the future.
Good luck with your mods and welcome to the MD diesel world!

I ended up going with the Dension bt unit from Enfig…I’ll see how that works. If it’s a pain, then I may go that route with Crutchfield. When I pulled up my year they said they don’t have a wiring harness for it, etc. so I went a different route. That may be due to yours being the facelift model… all I really need it streaming and hands free. Which Kenwood did you go with and where did you mount the Sirius antenna?

I believe it's the Excelon DDX396 touchscreen. Been a few years.
Guess the plug and play is a model year thing..
Excellent choice you've made. I hope you don't have to do much tapping into the wiring for steering wheel controls.
The HK speakers are pretty good. Just no thump thump. If you're into the thump you'll have to add an extra amp and subwoofers.
Not needed for me.

I'm new here also ... same vehicle:)
Hello,
Your W211 looks outstanding. I just purchased mine two weeks ago and created my profile tonight.
I'm not quite used to the vacuum pump keeping things in check. Mine will turn on as needed once or twice per day. But all seems normal for these cars.
My W211 is brilliant silver. Your color looks great. I have the grey interior also.

Not sure on the flush...I'm new to diesels and am planning on taking the car eventually to my indy for some fluid changes, filters, etc. I may do some myself if I have the time, but want to have it inspected a bit to see what may need attention.
Thanks for the kind words Kevin...I wasn't exactly sold on the color (my cars are typically black) but I have warmed up to it quite a bit. Your car looks great as well!
I am still investigating lowering the car a bit...I'm getting conflicting info doing searches here and other places on whether or not just using lowering springs would work (looks like H&R sells a kit) with the current shocks...would love to do this without going into the coilover world. Anyone with advice would be great.

Yes I understand - I just sold a black bmw that I owned for 9 years. I have found that the silver colors are so forgiving. For me it’s been a much needed change going from black to silver. I tend to be over the top ocd and I really needed the new color that is not only very pleasing to view but so much easier to maintain.
