TMC update (UK only)

Finally I have got a response from Mercedes-Benz UK concerning the saga of TMC. This is an exact extract from the letter..........

There are four companies involved in making TMC available to UK Mercedes-Benz customers: DaimlerChrysler AG (DCAG), DaimlerChrysler UK Ltd (DCUK), ITIS (the service provider) and Teleatlas (who manufacture the navigation discs). Currently we are in discussions with IT IS regarding the cost of the service, which at its present rate would not be economically viable for our customers. Once we have negotiated a more appropriate rate, DCAG, as the manufacturer, will need to approve the application from DCUK. When this has been approved we will ask Teleatlas to produce a disc that is compatible with the systems in our vehicles. Our Marketing Department has confirmed that we are hoping this process will be completed within the next twelve months, however due to the number of parties involved we are unable to be more specific.

I am sorry that I am unable to provide a more positive response on this occasion but recommend that you keep in close contact with your local authorised retailer who will be informed as soon as we have more specific information on the availability of TMC in the UK.

Yours sincerely,
Etc etc. ............................................

Now if Mercedes-Benz UK intend charging for the update I for one will NOT be a 'happy bunny' There are ways to make any purchase a cheaper option, but these are best discussed 'offline'

Bye for now,
John
A very wet, cold morning in Torquay

Hmmmm. Is this guy knowing what he is talking about? The producer of the E-class Nav disks are Navteq, and not Teleatlas!

ps. Your disc is on it's way....

Excellent news thanks very much

I was just about to e-mail you on the very point that you have raised relating to the Navteq Teleatlas issue. Quite literally I was just about to open up my e-mailer. (wierd)

I am sure you are correct. I think that basically MB UK have got the CD - DVD issue confused, and also the licence holders?

I also note your spelling of Navteq as opposed to what is on the DVD case. Navtech. Your version gives far more information on a 'google' search.

The information I was given comes from a 'Resolution Specialist'. When a 'specialist' gives me information, I expect that information to be correct?? It looks like another letter is in order.

Thanks again for both parts of your message,
John
