W211 whining differential

Hi!

I have some probelm with my rear differential.. It makes humming sound (bearing fault) around 50-60km/h.

I already changed propellershaft bearing and bushing, rear wheel bearings, rear differential oil + XADO additive, but all the same.

The EPC only says that differential can only be changed as full unit, you cant buy bearings or parts for it.

Can anybody help me please with some informations about diff. reneval, and bearing part numbers?

Car: W211 facelift sedan, E200 CDi ( OM646.821 ), Manual 6 Trans, non 4matic.

Original part number for complete differential unit: A 219 350 14 14

Thanks a lot!

You already found out, we can hardly get a EPC PN for unlisted parts.

The preferred source of differential noise are the two roller bearings of the input pinion shaft.

Each roller bearing has manufacturer markings. Use that to cross reference an upgrade from your trusted brand.

Thanks, yes i thought it. I am arfraid of disassembly, because some peoples say the differential wheel gaps need to be adjusted
by specified Sieger rings with different thickness. Is it valid information?

In general, yes, diff gear backlash is adjusted via shims. However, if you replace just the carrier bearings, and place the shims where they came from, usually there is no need for adjustment. But it's a good practice to check the tooth contact pattern with a marking compound.
Same goes with the pinion bearings, but you'll need to get proper preload to pinion.
