Key won’t turn can’t even get codes
Hi everyone,
so tbh I realy beat on my e 350 4 matic bc when I went to look at it for some reason my ride thought I was good to go and I thought she was parking car she left me in San bernidino with my phone charging in her car . I was in a questionable area with ten grand in my pockets and to say my buying leverage was lol to none would be an understatement. Long story longer, the car had a salvaged title that I didn’t realize bc well tbh sometimes I’m not the smartest monkey in a man-suit for sure. That all being said I have had the car for three years put 40,000 miles on it and love it to me end. Over past six months though the key at rare times wouldn’t turn I would flip it and boom start right up. However the last week it started getting really difficult. I am a veteran and have the parachute badge sticker on my rear windshield and I say this bc the tow truck drive knocked off hun bucks bc he too was paratrooper combat vet so if it can help me again get atleast real solid information I would be so grateful!! Key won’t turn at all now and idk if I can get a new key or anything bc of the salvaged title! Mercedes did replace the sbc for me even though all electronic warranties are void. Please help out I don’t want to junk and put to sleep “smoke” named after my pit that saved my life while being robbed at gun point! So if I can’t have him no one can I will put him to rest! AGAIN! Please help!

Well the key wouldn't be a warranty issue so you should be able to buy a key no matter what the status of the car is. It's possible it's the EIS though which is the ignition system. If a new key doesn't fix it, you'd have to fix that next. You don't mention the year, but some of the older models were easier for locksmiths to make a key so you don't necessarily have to go to the Mercedes dealer but sometimes the locksmith is as much as the dealer or more so it pays to call around and see what price you can get. I suppose if you have a scanner that does MB specific codes, you could try that also but usually when diagnosing key doesn't work issues, they usually try the second key to see if it's the same thing and if it is, then it's the EIS otherwise it could just be a bad key.
