Ring in oil pan? M112 E32

Who can tell me what this is?

I am replacing my oil pan gasket and I found a torn up plastic ring hanging from the oil pump.
It is a hard plastic black ring, apr. 1.5 to 2 inch (4-5 cm) in diameter with grooves on the outside.
It reminds me of the seal ring of an oil bottle but I would like to make sure it is not some part of the engine.

My oil pump was replaced a couple of months ago when I bought the car.
(E320 4 matic 2004, M112 E32 engine)

Thanks for your help!

Check this thread, there are two O-ring behind the front timing cover, they can be "wash away" by the high pressure coolant and end up in the oil pan.

This is one of the causes that coolant mixed with engine oil.

Thanks! Going to check for oil in the coolant - was planning to flush that anyway.
Is this the right part number for the O-rings? A1129970845. I would like to compare material and size.
It looks like a rubber ring. I am pretty sure the ring I found is hard plastic.

thats weird, i think i found something VERY similar in a 5.3 L LS i tore apart a few weeks ago.
no idea where that came from as most of the hard parts eemed intact, never seen any plastic parts missing or broken.
