Replace or clean lifter without removing timing chain
Engine M112 E32
W211 E320 4-matic 2004
There is a ticking noise coming from my left bank. I suspect hydraulic lifters.
I am considering to remove the rocker arm and inspect, clean or replace the lifters.
The procedure I found to remove the rocker arm needs the timing chain to be removed from the cam shaft (because of the downwards pressure from the chain on the shaft).
1. I can't find any way how to put the chain back on the cam shaft. If I remove the chain tensioner, I would be able to put it back on?
2. Is there a way to remove the rocker arm without removing the timing chain?
3. Is there a way to clean the lifters without removing the rocker arm?

Have you reviewed videos on the M112/113 from Master Tasos? He has several on the M112/113 engine series, in particular advice on how to change the lifters

Unfortunately it doesn't answer if and how it would be possible to change or clean lifters without removing the timing chain.
