Took my 2006 w211 350 Eclass 4matic to dealership bc key fob wouldn’t turn anymore.
they come back with it’s the cgw but never had any of those symptoms and that’s $2864 ima a disabled vet on a fixed income.. they gotta be kidding … entire initial conversation with my advisor…was janky at best! First he told me the key won’t turn bc of the CGW then said it wouldn’t jump . I asked how did they try to jump it with the key u able to turn. Then he kept changing his words to the key won’t start the car. I said I never asked u of it would start the car the battery is dead I know the key won’t start the car but u said it won’t turn bc of the CGW . He kept saying same weird statements “yessir I know the key won’t start the car? I finally was able to haggle him into a corner and ask did u get the key turned? He said well yes after we got some power to it and the battery we were able to finagle it to get it to turn then nothing checked your cgw and it’s corrosive so before we can check the key fob or the rod we have to fix the cgw! Now this dude is same guy told year before they were not gonna fox my sbc braking issues mean while the technician already sent me pics of it done new parts on my car? Now in utter Confusion I said so u fixed it then took pics and took it off bc I was just sent these? And he never replied and I was sent a text to come pic up my vehicle? Now I have same guy and he told me on his own that this has nothing to do with last time that they don’t care how they get paid weather be me or Germany so that isn’t y u have this almost identical bill! Seems like that’s exactly why? Any thoughts on how I can go over him to a supervisor or should I just have my car towed and junked? Bc I can’t afford that
That’s the conversation not my writing and it was speak to text bc just had carpal tunnel Surgery. If u got a headache reading it imagine living it! But I can understand as far as lack of punctuation. Ie: quotations. I hoped to get the jest of it out obviously I failed. I apologize . Has anybody heard of the central gateway module causing key not to turn?
The electronic ignition switch (EIS), the steering column lock, motor electronics (ME-SFI, M3/10), and driver's side SAM (N10/1) are all connected via junction blocks X30/5 and X30/6 so they do not need the CGW to communicate protocols to each other. It is possible the signal to activate the starter relay on the front SAM would pass through the CGW but I feel like this needs more digging. I see nothing in the documentation showing the CGW being involved in the start process.
A good battery is essential. Do not have the key fob in the EIS when you attach jumper cables or a new battery; the voltage spikes can and will blow fuses and possibly damage modules.
You need STAR/Xentry to run a serious diagnostics test; that alone would give you info to reassure you about the health of the CGW. Find an independent MB mechanic if you can, repair, then sell the car and buy something reliable. Not dinging you, it's that I own a pair of older Mercedes and know the costs involved.
