Noise starts at 50, clears at 70mph

2006 e500 4Matic wagon
Weird thing is happening in-between 50 and 70 MPH: I get an annoying sound resonating inside the cabin but it's not a whine like a wheel bearing, and it goes go away after 70. I have a set of 18s and 19s with different tires and it does it with either set on. I removed my wheel spacers thinking maybe that was the culprit but same results. I don't think it's a wheel bearing either because it begins at 50, and ends at 70. I've had bad wheel bearing before and they don't quit whining...and this isn't a whine...more like a howl, that resonates the entire car. Makes my ear drums pucker around 60 too, making that speed very uncomfortable audibly to maintain. Any ideas what it could be? I'm confident it's not tires or rims. Also confident the tires are balanced because I feel zero vibration through the steering wheel. Also confident it's not a wheel bearing. What's left that spins? Differential? Transfer case? Center support bearing?

I'd think the diffs would never stop that noise. Perhaps I'll confirm the diffs are topped off. Any suggestions, or has anyone heard of something like this?

Driveshaft would be the correct term. Transaxle is a transmission that also includes the differential, i.e. basically every FWD car.

, and every VW Beetle, and 911.

When posting from the phone, and I get stuck finding the translation in English I made that kind of mistake. On the laptop, I have more real space to search and find the correct word. Thank you.
