Quick Question on Xenons

Is it possible to have xenon headlights without LED brakes from the factory? The reason I ask is because I see at least 5 w211's a day on my commute to work (mostly from behind) and only about 5% or less have LED's. The only two ways I have been able to tell if the car has xenons during the day is either with the LED brake lights or the front washers.

It surprises me because I would think that more people would want xenons, especially in this market. It's actually quite strange.

Yes, the cars you see have either the Sport or Appearance Package on them which adds the LED taillights. You can get the plain old lighting package.

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
I would have gotten HIDs if I were going to keep the car. My lease is up in ~5 months.

Unless the buyout is crazy inexpensive - buh bye E320.

I think it sucks that M-B charges 1100 or whatever for HIDs on a 50K car.

Yes, I believe that it is possible. You might be seeing Appearnace Package cars which come with bi-xenons, LED brake lights, and headlamp washers. I think that bi-xenons can be ordered separately without the other options.

I am almost positive that my car with the lighting package did not come with the LED brakelights. (Although you would wonder why a lighting "package" would not come with the upgraded lights front and rear!) I believe in 04 the only way to get them was to get the appearance pkg, and I didn't want black wood trim inside. For '05 you have a choice on the wood color with the appearance package, so I would have ordered it to get those goodies too...

Wow, this is great. So it's safe to say that:

1. You can only get the LED's with Appearance Package
2. Lighting Package does not include LED brakes
3. It is possible to have Xenon headlights and halogen brake lights but not vice versa (or LED brakes with halogen headlights) from the factory.

Thanks guys!

ok heres the deal. you guys are right that you can get the xenons without the LEDs. the leds are not part of the lighting package but are very easy to retrofit. fazooley bought a set of leds tails from steve and we installed them, his car came with the xenons with the lighting package

Do you remember how much the LED's were and how hard it was to install?

i really dont remember how much they were as fazooley was the one who bought them, but im sure either he or steve could tell us for sure.

the install took all of 20 minutes with 5 minutes for the drivers side and 15 min for the passenger side. the passenger side was a little more difficult cause there is this air cannister looking thing right in the way of a few of the nuts. i think scorchie said it was for the airbags or seatbelts, not sure. i just unscrewed that cannister thing right outta there being real careful and not undoing the line that came out of it. i had fazool hold it and i swapped the tail lights out. i think there may even be a thread that fazool posted on here after the install.

you used to have a w211 in your sig with "coming soon", now theres question marks. whats up? youre having second thoughts about the w211? what else are you looking at?

I'm just not 100% sure anymore. The only other car I'm looking seriously at is the TL because of it's techie-goodies. I still love the w211 though.
