2008 E350 722.6 Trans Fluid Change
So, in the past 2011 till 2019 I had a 2008 E350 4matic Sedan. Great car and did my own maintenance for the most part. I had changed the trans fluid back then, so I still had the measuring tool. Well so I got a car washed out in Ian, in Florida and after my wife got tired of me using her car finally got another car. The car that got inundated with salt water was a 2011 BMW 535i. She likes BMW's and me Mercedes. Anyway, I ended up getting a new to me.....2008 E350 4matic Sedan again!!! Pretty low miles at 79,xxx, no issues and I now have 83,xxx and had already changed the oil, but decided to change the Trans Fluid. I don't know why it is so hard to find capacities for these cars but ended up getting most of the stuff from FCPEuro. My 1st dilemma was that I actually had many liters of Liqui Moly 1800 Top Tec on a shelf, but everything I saw everyone really wanted you to use LIqui Moly 1600 Top Tec. The 1600 had an approval from MB and the 1800 did not, although the 1800 bottle said they recommend it for MB 236.14 fluid. I ended up going locally and getting 5 liters of the 1600. So car on my 4 post lift tray removed and then drain plug removed and fluid out. Then the 6 securing bolts and fasteners (IIRC) removed and one bolt front passenger side for a shiels and then the pan is off. You do need to balance the pan as it still had plenty of fluid in it. Cleaned the pan and the magnet off and took ot old filter and wiped it clean. pot new filter in hole and made sure rear slot on filter is put in valve body I will call it. Put the gasket on clean pan and then struggled a bit to get the pan back on.....a delicate balancing act, but back on etc. I decided to put the plastic splash guard back on at this time. Lowered car and proceeded to put 4 Litres in. The bottles of Liqui Moly had a straw that extended out of the bottle making it easier to put in a small funnel on where the dipstick would go if it had one. When it was all said and done, I had the car warmed up and the level definitely seemed at the top of the measurement. I thought I would need to add more fluid, so I wanted to see what others have found that they needed to add after just a pan drainage, there was no TC drain or line flush, so just the pan etc. Let me know what you think. It is definitely shifting smoother now as before there was a bit of harshness occasionally.

So, I was able to find online thru Mercedes what the approved fluids were, so once I saw the approval for the Liqui Moly 1600 Top Tec it was a done deal as far as the fluid goes. It was available at a local NAPA store, not sure if you have any there////down under, but what I was really struggling with is finding I guess what the capacities are. Meaning I know that there should be a dry capacity that would be useful in determining what percentage of fluid was actually changed since I basically emptied the pan and filter and let it drain a bit while the pan was off. Most of the Euro parts places sell a transmission service kit that includes tarns fluid and filter and gasket and in my case the locking pin and cover where the fill tube is in the engine compartment. They sell it with 5 Liters of fluid. I put in 4 liters, and it might be just a bit overfull. I am rechecking it hot with engine running etc. a few times. I will say that the car has never shifted quite as smooth as it does now. I tried to see if my fluid suction device would fit down the dipstick, which would have made removing a bit very easy and also it would have made for maybe an intermittent fluid only change very easy as a way of getting a higher percentage of new fluid in the system.

So, I was able to get into the video's and sure enough the foreign video, not FCP Euro, he measured the fluid he got out of the trans and sure enough.....if it was full, he got out 4.1 Liters, so my 4 liters that i put in I feel pretty good about. It does feel like new!!!!

In the video he also broke the Trans Cooler lines so that he could drain addition fluid and pumped out more fluid by starting the car. He did a more complete fluid flush. I think what I will do is also drain a bit out and refill again so that I have a higher percentage of new fluid. Thanks for the help.
