I really want the Tire Pressaure Monitoring in my 05 E500. But my sales told me that it is not retrofit and must be a factory installed item.
MBenzNL Steve and scorchie, can u?
Thanks!

TPMS can be added after the fact... it doesn't appear to be terribly difficult.
Distronic... Steve's working on that one. It's mostly installed in my E55 but we haven't had time to activate it yet. Other priorities... Steve believes that it can be added after the fact to the W211 as well, and Sunman did a great job getting it going on his W203.

Distronic
---------
- radar module
- wiring
- main control module
- SPEEDTRONIC + TEMPOMAT (S42) column control switch
(you may as well install the voice control system at the same time)
- new ESP module for BAS control
- drivers control switch (near gear selector)
- new panelling around gear selector.
- Systems Control Number activation code
- Star Diagnostic activation
- radar alignment
- validation of correct horns (one frequency is known to destroy the radar)
- new grille with glass insert for radar operation.
- new hood star ?
As for tyre pressure
------------------
It would be a parts kit and is truly bolt on. It would require that all the rubber be removed from your rims also and the pressure sensors with valve be fitted in place of the normal air valve. They have a 7 year life.
Activation isnt so hard with STAR.

scorchie,
How much will you charge to install the TPMS (parts/labor)?
Thanks!

I am also interested in adding TPMS on my 2004 E320 4Matic. When I asked one of the service writers at my dealer (not the one I usually use). He said that the system was integrated to the main coputer and that it would be impossible or too expensive to do.
If anyone does it here in the US, could you please give us the complete list of items needed (I know you have the list already, but since you quoted it in Euros, I am wondering if there might be other stuff needed for the US market) plus how much labor you paid? Than would be great to bring to my dealer and say "DO IT!!!"
Also, since I don't have the system and I have two sets of rims and tires (winter/summer) I guess this means I need to install more sending units in each wheel. But, how does the system know what tire is which after you rotate the tires? Are the sensors in each respective wheel well?
Any imput would be great!

Right side carpet. The module sits under the carpet and on cars with Distronic, the carpet backing has a cutout for the module. Fits much better that way!

You will need to have the volume turned up. It is not rude, or offensive.
Take care,

The three Uzis I have (Israeli, Chinese and US manufacture) probably would have yielded worse results! I would bet the US version would produce the best cut line.
Seriously, in the US we can probably buy the carpet with the money we save by not purchasing these items... they are unneeded here as the devices fitted for US-spec are sufficient.

As for the ESP module ....... that really comes down to the type of module in use. Some variants come with all the necessary code. Validation is the key if you consider the W203 and W209 as possible applications.
Checking the horns doesnt seem to be any special effort ?
