Steering column adjust completely inoperative

Hi everybody, problems problems problems with my W211.

Since I got it the steering column adjuster hasn't worked.

It's not the common fault which is everywhere on the internet. (tilt function broken because of 'dog bone')

Mine does not move in any direction.

If I move the stalk it makes a 'click' sound but nothing happens.

In the diagnostics software I can see the switch is fine and sending data to the controller but after that... nothing happens.

Anyone know if there is a common cause for this issue?

What's your mileage ?
Are you positive you want SCM to work?
What scanner are you using ?

I have reworked my SC, I may be able to help.

Mileage is about 170,000. What is SCM? I'm talking about the tilt and reach adjustment on the steering column. It doesn't move in any direction. I get a 'click' and nothing else. I've got Xentry diagnostics software and in the acutations section I can see the stalk for moving the steering column is making a connection in all directions... just does not translate into any sort of movement.

I know there's a common fault with the 'dog bone' breaking but that would only affect operation in the tilt (up / down) motion and 'reach' should still work if it was that common fault.

SCM is Steering Column Module
170kMi.

You getting a click but no motion sounds like fuse would be okay and motors bad.... but both motors at the same time would need to be something shared, right?

If it's not on the plus side then it's the other side...
CHECK/CLEAN GND POSTS at footwell.

Looking for combination... Any other faulty modules showing in Xentry ??

yes, whole reason I'm in the steering column anyway is that the SRS light is on and it's saying the air bag is disconnected. I'm going to do the replacement of the connector for the steering column as that might explain both faults. Just waiting for the part.

Go ahead and do that. Hopefully SRS resumes working... if not then suspect marginal GND path.
