Cv axle is badly stuck
In process of changing driers cv axle on my wife's 2007 e350 once I got to the axle it literally just came apart leaving the other half stuck in trans it's almost out but it's been the craziest thing ever nothing got it out besides pry bar and hammer .. why is it such a pain to get out of there

It gets rusted in. Normal procedure is to use a 3 inch muffler clamp and put it around the inside part and then either a slide hammer or something else to tap against the muffler clamp to get it to come out. Then grease the new one before putting it in. Also save the old one in case you get a vibration from the new one. My inner boot finally went and I used an aftermarket axle from Rockauto which worked out but the first one I used had a vibration.

Late to the thread - is a snap ring / circlip holding the shaft in place? Slide hammer + circlip = broken oil pan.

I hope not not to sound like an idiot but how can I tell from the looks it's has the ring that locks the axel on the shaft idk I'll get a pic quick also if I did break the pan I'm assuming there would be fluid everywhere correct?
