Error Codes

I recently bought a 2005 E320 CDI with 140,000 miles on it. Since, several warning lights have come ESP, ABS. Shut off the car wait a few minutes, start back up it’s fine but it seems to come on every 500 or so miles. took it to the dealer, they didn’t find any stored codes and bled the breaks said that should be it. Another couple hundred miles back on. Took to mechanic, got codes to replace speed sensors, break light switch and the ABS module and Pump. All were replaced and all 4 speed sensors. Another few hundred. Lights back on and now a new one, reduced breaking power depress break fully with beeping when I first started it. Turned it off for a while, turned back on now it’s clear. Help please. What can I do? I can’t take all these lights!

Assuming you have a good battery and alternator (min 11.7v engine off and 13.7v engine on) and with so many new parts, look toward the brake booster and Brake Assist solenoid that can fail. The ESP/ABS code is sometimes a symptom and not a cause. Something else fails and that triggers the ABS code and so on. Make sure your mechanic has Xentry or equivalent to ensure all modules are being scanned.

One other area to consider is that aftermarket speed sensors have been known to be unreliable, even when new. Also, the ring on the outside of the wheel bearing which the speed sensor reads maybe dirty or damaged. At 140k maybe have a look. You didn't state if you went to a dealer or indy. Maybe worth looking at.

I have since gone back to the dealer. ABS pump was replaced again. Nothing came on for another 270 miles. Now ABS ESP lights are back and the arrow with display malfunctions and limp mode. Dealer wants me to bring back and be charged again, 3rd time, for diagnostics. Honestly I don’t know how much more I can take

Purchase a good diagnostic system, pull the codes yourself. If the instrument cluster lit up (especially ESP), there *will* be stored codes! Take a photo, erase codes, and wait for next failure. Pull codes again. "Current" codes are the failure point to look for.
FWIW, if in USA, SBC brake system is under 25-year warranty. Mine was repaired no cost and I told them what was the failure code...
Edit: makes me angry when service advisor says "no stored codes". That's why I say pull them yourself, take photos, then take it to a shop. However, go with OEM parts even though more expensive; here the parts come with a one-year warranty.

Please take the error codes seriously, I also had the same error messages and I didn't give them priority straightaway. The problem with my CLS55 was partially a power circuit issue (parasitic drain), but also a problem with the SBC unit. Low voltage will also trigger brake warnings.

I was driving on the highway (around 60mph) when assisted braking was lost. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot of traffic and I was able to get it stopped safely. I would not recommend this to anyone. Get the SBC replaced (either under warranty or via reconditioned/remanufactured units)! Mine got replaced last year under warranty, I had to invest about 2-2.5 hours at the dealer as they were running all kinds of tests and getting the repair approved by Mercedes HQ.

I made a post on my Instagram which gained some traction and showed that not all countries will work towards replacement under the extended warranty, please be aware of that > https://tinyurl.com/yhw9rd9x
