Expect to replace conductor plate - and other Qs
My understanding is that WGS2 started around 2008 (if it matters).
The more I look into this the more common the problem seems. I travel out of town every couple months and don't want to get stranded. Should I just plan on doing the conductor plate preventatively? It sounds like it's more a matter of WHEN it will fail, than IF it will fail, right?
It looks like with the 722.9, if a new conductor plate is used, it has to be programmed and coded to the car, as well as the fault code cleared with a STAR scanner.
I'm assuming a person cannot replace the conductor plate and drive to a shop to have the rest of the work done, right? Car would probably have to be towed, I'm assuming? Only way to avoid that is to send the unit in to circuitboardmedics.com, where they fix your existing conductor plate. But the downside is that you will be stuck with the original WGS1 or WGS2 conductor plate.
If I were to get the 4Matic transmission, and replace the conductor plate, would it need to be registered and programmed - since it's an older transmission design?
Does the E350 4Matic transfer case have the same bearing failure as the ML 350? Not finding much on that.
Thanks,
-Nathan

You could pull the EIS (igniton switch), and send it out with the new conductor plate for coding. That's what I did when I replaced the EIS.

Unfortunately the TT V8s in your E63 and GLS450 had lots of issues with cylinder scoring and plastic cooling bits falling apart. The scoring issues can be resolved by more aggressive oil change intervals, and unfortunately the plastic cooling bits are just something that you have to deal with.
The conductor plate issue on early 722.9s was corrected pretty quickly. I had an 07 that experience the problem, but by 09 it had already been updated.
Now would I buy a covid or post covid mercedes? Absolutely not, because they are now built by masked cucks being replaced by turks in their own country and designed for tasteless chinese.

Plus no one changes the EIS when you change the conductor plate thats a waste of money and does nothing for the conductor plate unless the car was stolen and you cant use the key
Conductor plates are flashed in the car not on a bench so sending it somewhere is questionable
