12V outlets

I have been reading my owner's manual It states there is a 12V outlet in the front ashtray, one on the back of the center consol, and an additional one in the trunk. I have looked all over the trunk, and don't see it. Can someone please enlighten me?

I bet you have the butterfly console? My 05 E320 has the new style console and I have an outlet in the trunk, its on the left side up high with a door reading 12v. My guess is the more recentley built E's got with new console got the outlet in the trunk.

Yes - I just picked up my car last night and noticed the 12 volt outlet on the upper left inside of the trunk.

So. If removing features is "decontenting", what do we call adding features? "Neocontenting"?

The outlet in the ashtray and the outlet in the back of the center console are wired through a cutoff module into the battery control module (so that it can cut off power to them in a low voltage situation... sounds like a bad idea).

Adding one to the rear trunk liner would be easy to plug into the rear SAM, however having the BCM control it would require a lot more work.

I use the one in back of the center console to power a game system for the rear screen (just hooked it up to try it). I guess one in the trunk would be handy for my fridge/warmer.

The one in the trunk is located on the top piece of the lining on the left side, just several inches from the light.

Wouldn't the one in the back of the center console have been of more use INSIDE the center console? I wouldve liked it there to have a cleaner place to put a car charger for the cell phone. Hey scorch, If I were to add another one there, what where would the best place be to connect it? I mean it seriously since you've probably been in there...

The one on the back of the console uses standard 1/4" spade connectors for connection! It would be really easy to buy another outlet (OEM of course) and put it into your center console... then run a Y-splitter cable to the one in back, use at least 16AWG wire (the spec is actually 1.25mm). Just be sure not to exceed 15A on both at the same time, although the fuse or BCM cutoff relay will protect it if you do.
