Question about Nav system

Greetings from the W209 board. My dad just got a new E500. He doesn't think he has the Nav system, but I think he might (just without the DVDs). He sent some digital pics, and his console has the full color screen with the Nav button, including the warning message at startup. I know on my 2004 C class that if you have all this, you definitely have the Nav system (otherwise you don't get this full size digital screen at all), but he swears he didn't order Nav. He gets some kind of "not available" message when he hits the Nav button right now. I think he is just missing the DVDs, but I could be wrong here.

Appreciate any help -- hate to see the Nav system go to waste if he has it and doesn't know it.

Tell him to pop the trunk and look on the drivers side, unlock the tabs on the small door, the DVD player for the nav resides there. On mine there are two doors in one, if you flip one open you get access to the nav, open the other and you have fuse panel access. Or he can just press "nav" or "map" on the radio....

It sounds like he has the command head but not the NAV system. The way to tell for sure is to open the trunk and see if there is a DVD slot to insert the NAV DVD. It is on the rear driver's side corner of the trunk.

If the system says it is not available, then it is not installed. If you just don't have the DVD in the system it will tell you to insert disc.

The warning always comes on, they like to cover their a##.

Hope this helped,

Steve
