w211 parking brake auto tensioner issue
im strugling with my 2007 e mercedes 220.
i replaced rear disks and parking break shoes, adjusted the toothwheel in the hub so that break engages on the first or second snap of the pedal press. so everything should be correct. the metal part with hinges that operate the shoes is moving freely.
prior to changing the brake parts, i did not operate the automatic tensioner in any way, nor have i after.
however, when operating the brake, i am able to press the pedal all the way to the floor with resistance, locking the wheels, cannot turn them by hand. but when driving, the power of the brakes is very little, does not pass the inspection.
i bought the car a year ago so this was my first inspection and i just found out the brakes were not working correctly. my thesis is that the rear brake cables are loose and maybe the function is limited because of this. the operation in hub side should be correct in my opinion and according to all the videos in utube.
id like an opinion on the function of the automatic tensioner, in my opinion and what i have understood, pulling the tensioner backwards would give me no additional benefit. to my understanding the tensioner is at its front limit, yet feels there is slack in the rear cables. if the tensioner is at its foremost postion, how can i get the slack away from cables?
it feels as if the cables were a bit too long? or is there something im missing?
would highly appreciate any ideas on this. attached video link on the tensioner operation.
