I can't see through my car, except for the windows, and so I would have to say that it's third water. It's a first-rate car, though, if that is the question.
I called my service advisor and asked him why I did not have to have anything checked, but the 2005 had to get something checked. He said that they will just look the 2005 car over and check the computer for errors and even rotate the tires. Then they will tell the owners that they are on their own from then on and they will have to pay for service. It is kind of a friendly reminder that they will have to pay after that service.
I check my car over all the time, so I am not worried about service. I change tires twice a year, so I rotate them myself anyway. But I think that the 2005 service by approx 3k miles is a waste of time. From what I hear.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
...or "pole" as in fishing pole? :p
Maybe we should take a poll????
this was a regular thing the mercedes benz did for a long time before they offered "free scheduled maintenance" during the warranty period.
the main purpose is so that any initial questions or concerns come up early on with your vehicle, they may be addressed all at once, and after you've gotten used to the way the car operates.
as of 2005, maintenance is not free anymore, so they have instituted this first service visit (where differential gear oil is replaced on SL65 and G55K) and also
a free tire rotation around 7000 miles. service interval is now set at 13K miles for most cars and 10K miles for AMG cars. instead of the FSS computer determining when you need an oil change.
