Engine Fire 🔥

Driving along beautifully in my E320 2006 W211 and the battery light came on and the car stopped. Then I noticed smoke from engine.
Lifted the engine cover and there was flames coming from in front of the turbo. Lucky than a kind gentleman had a fire extinguisher and we managed to put the fire out.

What recall on the 2006 W211 E320 diesel would cause a fire?
I have had a fuel filter leak on my '05 E320 CDI, but that was no fault of the marque.
