In my own very personal opinion the 'auto' feature has one major draw back.

As it gets dark, and just before the lights automatically turn on you might be driving along a main road and just in front of you is a vehicle waiting to pull out of a side road. Without your knowledge your headlights turn on. The driver of the vehicle looks sees the headlights 'flash' and out they come!!!

On UK vehicles the manual (page 122) covers this example by advising you turn the switch from auto to on ""in good time"" . Plus when in auto mode we in the UK cannot turn on front or rear fog lights.

Regards,
John

I would entirely agree. However I would add that this is compounded by the fact that on the 2004s and older there is no indicator to tell whether or not your headlight are on.

So can any of our European friends confirm that you can get the "locator" lights to work while not in the "Auto" position??

Morning John,
I can only comment on UK (part of Europe ) vehicles.

My 2004 Avantgarde will only have this option operate when the lights are switched to 'Auto'

Good luck with your quest,
John
Cool overcast morning in Torquay
