How much do you use your V8???

I promised in my last thread not to start a discussion over this, so here I go:

But, the 6 will certainly move the car easily. And in a lot of typical driving actions, you will see no sizable difference.
And RJC hit it right on the head.

As for the topic: IMHO, there is no comparison between driving an E320 and E500 in terms of performance - they are worlds apart. I settled on the 8-cylinder after test driving a C240, C320, E320 and E500.
The sheer exhilaration experienced from its quiet (compared to the 320's) acceleration was the main thing for me, in addition to the car just feeling more "substantial" with its suspension.
Just my 2 cents.
We just bought a new 2005 Touareg (the G/F's car) with the V6 240hp/228 trq; for a 5100 lb vehilcle it does ok and its fine for what we use it for, HOWEVER, if I felt like spending the extra $$$ I would have gotten the V8 in a heart-beat or for that matter the V10tdi.
I also think it depends on what model MB you might be driving as some are sportier than others and others are a lot heavier too, a four door c class with the 3.2 is a decent performing car, but would you want an Sl with the 3.2 or an S class sedan or a CL? probably not. Now when the new 3.5 comes in to play things begin to change, but still, given the option and if the extra $'s for the engine or fuel were not an issue, most everyone would go for the V8 or for that matter the kompressor 8 or TT12.
I own a CLK500, if I did not cap the cost of the car at $60k I would have easily went for the 55, do I need the extra 62hp? no but it sure is a blast to drive
As I mentioned earlier we American's love large displacement engines (and other things LOL) renown for their low end torque that shoves you into the seat plus that V8 rumble, MB has done a great job tuning the exhaust on the Sl and CLK 500's etc for a sweet V8 sounds let alone the AMG cars.
Either way we all love our cars and whatever your individual circumstances are, just enjoy the pleasure of driving an MB

PS The touareg is one sweet ride and very well built.

Interestingly the SL brochure has the 0-60 time listed as (see dealer as this is the 2003 time). The 2003 had a 5 speed. I would really like to know if anyone has ever taken the 7 speed to the track and timed it as I am sure it is a bit faster then the stated speed and that they (Mercedes) rounds up / dumbs down their figures to put a larger gap between the E500 and E55 and SL500 and SL55. Although I am sure the E55 is faster then their stated time as well.

I climb over mountain passes (going from about 5,000 feet to about 11,000 feet) at least 6 times a month. The E320 can sustain itself in 5th gear at 3,000 rpms all the way to the top of the passes! I know the 500 or the CDI would also do it with greater ease, but the E320 is still miles ahead of most all the other cars on the road!
I can easily afford an E500 4 Matic, but I find it hard to convince myself that I truly need it. Also, it is nice to have a very well equipped E320 4 Matic and have no car payments. However, when a V6 CDI 4 Matic comes, I might just get it!!!
