COMAND Question

Has anyone from the US been able to keep the "UK English" Navigation voice as a result of the 3-5-7 trick?

I know I have an R171 but their COMAND units are the same and I figured there are many more experienced Gents here.

Thanks in advance!

If your COMAND has a choice for ECE, then you will be able to keep the non-US voice. If you only have US choices, then you can only keep the US voice. I believe if your head unit plays MP3 CDs/DVDs and is US-spec, you do not have any ECE choices.

I am able to change it to the English voice albeit temporarily (it resets after i restart the car) - thats why I was wondering if anyone had figured out how to make it permanent with the US model COMAND units.

Well, there are people who have changed it to the ECE setting and retained the voice. It isn't really "permanent" because it can be changed back, unless you do a software upgrade in that mode and remove access to the setting screen.

The English voice stays on my E500 until I change it back to US version.

In that case the COMAND for the R171 has been updated to prevent that sort of flipping some settings from ECE to US.

That's no surprise, the W211 has been that way for some time.

Can you tell me how you are even getting the British accent in the first place? I was messing around with the secret menus before and came across a menu that listed "English (UK)" as one of the options. I never could figure out how to get back into that menu but I think the problem might be that you're not giving the COMAND enough time to re-boot itself. Enter the setting and then shut the car off for a good 5-10 minutes then check it.

I got this from mbnz.org

1. Select/program a route to be calculated.
2. In Map mode make sure that you see a Split screen view (Map on left side, next turn on right side)
3. Press Nav button (it will say "Cancel Route" with Yes or No Options)
4. Select No and press OK
5. Now within 1 second press 3 then 5 then 7 in that order and keep held until the 'Service mode' menu appears. (note: do not press 5 then 3 and 7 like for the other hidden menu!)
6. Scroll down to Language and press OK.
7. Select 'English British' for Brit Chick.
8. It will say reading Nav Disk for a few seconds.
9 Press Back repeatedly until you are in map mode once more
10. Test by pressing the button thats got the Ear symbol, you should hear the voice of your choice!

Thank you very much! This is the exact menu I have been trying to figure out how to get into since I bought my car. I just made the changes so I'm hoping by leaving the navigation off for a while it will reset and then it will stick.

I got in to this menu very easily, and also easily changed it to the English GB option, and sure enough, it worked. But, it does not stick for me after I restart the car.

Worked for me too! But, will not stick after turning off the comand system. Will play around with it for a bit, but if anyone who knows how to make it stick after the car has been turned off please post.
Thanks,
Tom

It lasted while stopped at the gas station for about 5 minutes while filling up (car completely shut off and keys out of ignition) but didn't last any longer than that.
