I always wondering the same thing. I guess it is to do with placement to the top since no one responding, the placement will drop lower - I guess...

Thanks!

I've been wondering the same thing. Do people do it to add to their post count so they can get to the next level? BTW, how may posts does it take to become a member? I went from being a "junior member" to "almost a member". Makes me wonder what I did to get my member status (even if it WAS junior) taken away. Just kidding. But a lexicon of the lingo as used on this board rather than a dictionary definition would be most appreciated.

I usually see this term used in the classifieds more than anywhere else.... As touched on earlier, this term is used to get the thead back to the top of the forum list.... As time goes on and no one respondes the thread it will eventually end up at the bottom of the page.... So when the thread starter wants it to the top of the page again (and you must type something) the word bump is used....

It means that the poster wants the thread to move up to the top...or reactivate a thread.

Usually done when there has not been any recent responses and the poster still wants to hear some replies or answer to a question.

EDIT: Sorry HOH...didn't see your post with explanation.
