Torquay Harbour
This morning I noticed the poor quality of the picture, so at 9.28am I sent an e-mail to our local council complaing about this issue.
At 9.44am the same day, yes just sixteen minutes later I received the following reply:
Hi John. Thanks for the e-mail. It's the camera!! We've asked Torbay Council to investigate what's wrong.

Now that is what I call service? It might take a month for the council to rectify the fault, but by crikey the reply to my query was impressive. I have known automated replies to take longer. (They obviously realise who I am and do NOT want to incur my wroth)
Sorry about the quality of picture, but hopefully 'Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible'
To cheer you all up I have attached a view from my room window. The front of the house looks over Torquay and Torbay itself, whereas my view is from the rear of the property overlooking Lyme Bay and a 'stupid' crow trying to perch on our flagpole.
The views from the bottom of the garden are indeed stunning and take in approximately perhaps 50 miles of coastline. (there are many miles of 'bays' and I have just checked on Autoroute the distance. By road from my house to the furthest point of the view is 83 miles!!!)

A sunny, but cloudy morning in Torquay
I just thought I would post the view from my room. The picture was indeed taken during the summer.
Petunias! 'She that must be obeyed' is the gardener. I just call them either flowers or weeds. Unfortunately my gardening skills are not even that accurate and many a 'weed' has gone into the compost maker.
We are fortunate in having a nesting family of peregrine falcons visit us each year and I am more proficient at naming bird species rather than petunias.
Good spotting though,
regards,
John
Edit: I notice the web camera has been repaired

.John, check out picnic table on our back deck in Vail: Fall versus Winter. Colorado has 4 very short and beautiful distinct seasons. In the summer you mountain bike on the slopes and in the winter you ski. The SCUBA here is not good, but that is what the family in Florida is there for. I sometimes miss the water though.

Perhaps this is not the right place, but these pictures are taken by folks that I spend many hours with exchanging both points of view and information.
I am very lucky in living on a headland with spectacular views to both the North and South. The southerly view is a more general one similar to the link in my signature, but taking in more of the coastline.
The photograph shows a view from my room, however from the bottom of the garden (where my niece can be seen reading a book) the view takes in several holiday resorts from the two counties of Devon and Dorset, Portland Bill being the furthest point. (85.3 miles away by road)
Thanks for the pictures Steve, the poor wildlife must be in a complete turmoil. Do hibernating animals wake up as soon as the temperatures rise?

I too like to see pictures of the areas where people live. Somehow the "grass is always greener" when you see these pictures. I have been emailing and phoning a fellow who lives outside of Syracuse, NY close to where we lived 25 years ago. He told me that it was -22f this morning on his way to work and he can't wait for the day he can move south to get away from the eternal winters. The mountains of Colorado are beautiful to me in all of the seasons. Each has its own charm and I am glad that Steve lives there and shares his pictures with us. I am not that happy about living in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area but I am close to a major airport so I can fly to where my consulting engagements are. I would prefer to live further south and west in the "hill country" of central Texas but that must wait until I retire.

I do not have any problems with these type of posts. I even encourage them. This is one of the best ways to get friends closer together, even we live thousands of miles away.
I live in the city, therefore no such nice view, and it is always good to see that a friend is enjoying such a beautiful view.
Thanks for the post.

What an excellent way of expressing my own thoughts. I am envious of your language skills and ashamed of the fact I have been to lazy to learn even one foreign language.
Nice to hear from you again.

The joke is: What do you call a person who speaks 3 languages? Tri-lingual.
What do you call a person who speaks 2 languages? Bi-lingual.
What do you cal a person who only speaks one language? AMERICAN! (Actually monolingual).
I guess this really applies to anyone who speaks English as his or her native language. Why learn anything different? Everyone else speaks your language. You know?

Although I have the Torquay Harbour site in my Favorites, the pictures you posted from your yard are prefered.
Reminds me of some of the scenes from some folks' yards in the Palos Verdes Estates area in Southern California.
Thanks for posting them.
You have tempted me to post another picture which was taken from our balcony which is at the rear of the house, the picture was actually taken looking to the front of the property and over Torbay towards Brixham. The aircraft is one of the Red Arrows RAF Display Team
The view is slightly blocked because it was taken from the balcony and next doors' wall is obscuring part of the view.
When looking out of a front upstairs window we have lovely views that are only obscured by trees and rooftops. I am tempted to take a picture and post it.
Bye for now,
John

Thanks for your compliments John.
As you know, I have done a good part of my studies in UK and US, therefore I guess a decent level of English is a must, otherwise my parents would have killed me after spending such amount of money during my education.
Steeve, I heard the same joke many times from different people in different countries. It is just something you have to bear being the number 1 country in the world.
I have lived different cultures and each has its good side and its bad side.
You may be sure that I had many conversations and discussions on Spain, US, UK, Japan, and many other cultures, about which is the best and why one or the other has such a wrongful way of living.
It is endless. There is no single truth.
Just take the jokes as what they are, jokes. You cannot believe how many times I have listen to different jokes about Spanish “siesta” (nap), and how lazy I must be because I am Spaniard.
All these are anecdotes, and now I laugh at them because I know that I am not lazy or take “siesta” during office hours”.
I work in a Japanese company and some Japanese workers have come to me and said: “Javier, you are not Spaniard”. I always answer that I am Spaniard, but not the stereotyped Spaniard you think from a Japanese mind.
Well, I think I have extended myself more than I should, and maybe stated too much for my short 34 years experience.
It is always nice to express yourself freely from time to time. Good therapy.

John, you have to through a party at your house some day.
I am sure you can fit many people in your lawn, and be sure we will behave and not destroy your property.
Keep on posting such nice pictures.
Thought I had better turn you guys off from coming over here
This next picture is taken from the bottom of the garden looking very slightly to the right. The main view from my window is direct North. So, for this view it is NE or perhaps NNE
The view is of Exmouth which is surprisingly enough on the mouth of the river Exe. This river flows directly through the main city of Devon which is called Exeter.
The problem with these views is that there are always seagulls gate crashing the picture
Take care,
John
Nice picture,
I was fortunate enough to visit that part of the world in the late 1960's. Flower power was definitely the 'in' word and fashion.
Thanks for bringing back the memories
John
