E vs. CLS
Regards,
John
I'd rather have seen MB do less decontenting on the current E while improving the build quality than spending the money to come out with the CLS.
My son-in-law had a BMW M5 for two years but tired of it and said my E was a much better overall car.
I think the point of the car is that it doesn't " 'fit' in the current Mercedes lineup." I think it's aimed at people who want something a bit different than what you'll find elsewhere.
If you think of it as a sleek 2+2 coupe with the convenience of 2 extra doors, I think it makes some sense. Of course, MB will never be able to convince people of that. It'll likely always be viewed by the vast majority of people as a restyled sedan without a middle seat. Even so, it's still something different that should find a sufficient number of buyers.
Also, I think it makes sense for MB to have made this–*as it shares an awful lot with the E, it was relatively cheap to bring to market and should be highly profitable for MB if sales meet their projections– far more profitable than if they sold an equivalent number of E's, considering how much more expensive it is than a comparable E.
