dealers hate panoramic sunroofs
I am looking at ordering a E350 and my dealer keeps warning me about the panoramic sunroof option that I want. He just skakes his head and says that they can be alot of problems, expensive to fix, leaks...etc.
I can't find anyone having any serious problems in this forums. What gives?

Odd that the salesperson would advise against it?
Shouldn't he generate extra commision from up-selling?
Most likely scenario is that pano-roof not on lot (or regional inventory) and would prompt ordering a car versus selling existing stock.
The service manager would have to pay the salespeople the commission equivalent to get them to stop selling features, or, there is an outside chance he is being genuine. More stuff, bottom line, is more that can go wrong (and will, as the vehicle ages).

Never a problem with the Pano roof --- highly recommend getting it; plus it really segments you from the other 211's without it. Gives the car a real custom look. Just my opinion.

I also had the squeeky roof but the dealer fixed it with no problems. I am glad I ordered it, and surely would again. Everyone is amazed by the Solar Panels and the wow factor of it. Go and order it and don't listen to your salesman.

Mine squeeks only when closed for some reason. going in to get fixed. would definately order the car with it again. makes it a lot lighter inside, plus cool factor, as well as neater ambient lights

I don't see a lot of dealers having stock of e320 panos ( let alone 350s ). Not a popular option? I guess this cuts back on bargaining room on final price, seeing I will have to order one.

04' E500 w/Appear. PKG, Panorama Roof
Maybe he has a unit on the lot or one with a order that fell through equipped with a regular sunroof- Just trying to pressure you into the car he wants to sell, not the car you want to buy. MIne generates LOADS of comments and is truly the classic "innovation" that sets my MB apart from many others..... And they are great cars too

I did not want a pano roof but when I bought my 03 E320, the dealer made such a good deal on this particular car that I could not pass it up. Now it is the first thing I demonstrate to people seeing the car for the first time.
One very small problem. A small plastic piece that pulls down the flap as it closes broke and had to be replaced. Less than $5 for the part, maybe 10 minutes to replace but of course, under warranty.
One reason for not seeing as many now might be because the Premium Package that had a lot of the extras bundled for a decent price is only available with the regular sunroof. Also, I think the only way now to get the built in shades is to buy the Sunroof Package which again is only the regular sunroof. On my 2003, I have the shades and they were a seperate option that is not now available without the Sunroof Package.

Despite all the comments about how wonderful all the member's panoramic roofs are (mine is pretty good too, only making noise when the blind is drawn back and the glass is closed), I do know it has a lot of problems. In extreme cases (I've heard of more than a few), the whole roof must be replaced. In other cases, the small plastic clips break and require work.
So when it does have problems, it can be quite expensive and leave you in a loaner for a while.

I wonder your dealer might tell you how great pano roof is if he had 10+ pano roofs car in his lot. LOL

2006 E350
I picked up my '06 E350 on Monday and it has the Pano roof option. Definitely the first thing people want to look at. I've had people say that th einterior looks like it glows because of all the sunlight coming through.
