When i was at MacWorld in January, they had a demonstration of the ipod kit in two cars. I spoke with someone from MB and they said it would most likely work (but not guaranteed) in 2004 E class. They were handing out brochures and the literature also said something to that affect.

If you look in your glove box (04'E500) you eill see a jack that accepts a male lead, all you would need is a double male cable to fit in your iPod and connect to the female lead in the glove box and you will be able listen to it.You must hit the AUX soft key on the COMMAND console for the connection to be made.
I use it all the time,it works great! You are just limited to using the volume control and cannot change songs from the steering wheel, this must be done manually thru the iPOD.I hear MB may change all that tho with some sort of upgrade by the summer or early fall, not sure if it will be hardware or software or a combo of both.
