New BMW V8 vs new MB V8
Well it looks like BMW has a new 4.8 V8, it's first going in the the facelifted 7 series (745 goes to 750) in a few months as an 06; the engine puts out 360hp. The new 4.5 from MB is only supposed to put out 325hp and has less torque too. :o

Ah, but somebody posted recently that M-B will have a second new V8 with 400-some HP as well. I have no independent knowledge of this; maybe somebody who does can chime in.

New 5.5 Liter V8
I think judging by the upgrade from the 320 to the 350 and the upcoming BMW V8 competition, it would be realistic to expect the new 4-valve per cylinder V8 to be churning out 350 to 370 hp and develop over 500 Nm of torque, at least that's what German magazines are saying. In other words, performance should be similar to the old E55.

hello I have a 745li 2004 and I have the 750 li ordered and it will be arriving puerto rico in end of march the engine has been upgraded and also the exterior of the car. the engine will be much better for the cars size it will be quick the one I have know is fast I cant wait for the new one. P.S the bmw 745li I have know I can say is quicker than E500!

The latest news is the new 4.5 will have 335hp and the new 5.5 will have 383-400hp depending upon the application; what I don't know is if the 4.5 replace the 5.0's or does the 5.5's. I would imagine the 4.5 replaces the 4.3 and the 5.5 replaces the 5.0.

The earliest employment of the new 5.5 liter engine should be in the new W221 S-Class, which goes on sale in Europe in October. The 4.5 liter engine will follow in the summer of 2006. Since the E-Class will be facelifted between February and summer of 2006, the 5.5 liter engine should follow as a part of that. It will also be available in the SL, the ML and maybe the CLK. I don't know what the chances are that the 4.5 liter V8 will make it into the E, ML or CLK because BMW plans not to offer its smaller V8 in the 5-series, only the 7-series. Having said that, however, at this stage, anybody's guess is as good as mine. I am just summing up what I read in German magazines and have heard here.
