According to The Car Connection which writes it was at the press introduction of the E-Class, the price for the new 2010 E350 will be $48,600! Current price is $53,200. Price includes new standard features like Attention Assist and Agility Control.

Sounds like great news to me, at least MB seems to be reacting to the market conditions properly.

Wow, in the $40's is something. I'd read somewhere that this car was cheaper to build than the W211.

I think the car will need the price drop, as from what I've seen, a lot of people (not even car buffs) see it as a knock-off of a lot of other "lesser" cars design-wise. In todays market with todays competition, I just don't see people paying E-Class pricing this time around as much, especially considering all the things that it REALLY does do better (stiffer chassis, Attention Assist, etc.) go over the heads of the general public.

The price drop should help them move these better IMO though.

True that the styling has been controversial, but that is the case with most redesigns. I did see it at the NY Auto show and I did like it. I think it will do well, too bad they had to launch such an important product in this economy.

Yeah, I think regardless of how well or not so well the car is received, when looked back on in years, it will most probably be the lowest Sales turnout for a newly released E in recent times due mostly to the Economy. If the public's grand perception does indeed fall flat in terms of how much they like the car, then it could be in really bad shape. Regardless, if it has a Star on the hood most people will buy it if they can afford it, as history has proven. I think lowering the price was a very mandatory move for M-B for a definite few reasons.
