New E-class without NAV

New E-class without NAV
We can all agree that the new E-class will not feature comand as a standard item. It is going to be an option, but what will the dash look like without it. Will the screen remain 7 inches, or will it be reduced to 5 inches like the c, glk, and updated gl class????? Does anyone have some pictures??? I attached a computer rendering, but I need some actual pictures for proof! Thanks everyone!

That's an old pictures. That was one of the first rendering of what the W212 would look like. Basically they morphed a C-Class with a W211 E-Class interior together. Look at the transmission shifter; that's from the current gen E-Class. The W212 will have it like the ML mounted on the dash board; "mustache" style.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't come standard with nav as MB has been rolling nav into the P1 package for the ML and R. Either way, the screen will stay there just as in the new GLK, nav or not.
As for the shifter location, you have to look really hard at photos you see floating around to determine if it's a photo of the sedan or coupe. E class sedan's will have the column mounted shifter, where as the E class coupe will have the shifter in the normal location in the center stack. This holds true for U.S. spec models only, I'm not entirely sure about the other world cars as preview pictures show the old style center stack shifter on sedans.

US model COMAND systems
US models, with our without Navi will have the large 7" screen. This follows similar logic from the previous generation. There will be no US version with the smaller screen. Navi will most likely be in P1.

The US version of COMAND (w/o) navi is developed specifically for the US market. This is similar to other high-line US version cars (E/CLS/SUVs etc). The large screen COMAND seems to be considered a standard feature - even if Navi is optional. Therefore, it makes sense that this would not be visible from the ECE perspective.

Yes, you are reading this right. The sedans will have a "mustache" shifter mounted next to the steering column while the coupe will have the shifter placed in the conventional place between the two front seats; AMG models gear selectors will be place there also. The reason why the non-AMG sedans will have it on the steering column is to free up the space between the driver and the passenger seats and give the cabin a more continuous flow. This also gives the illusion of a more expensive car since all high end luxury cars (Bentley, Rolls, etc...) have column mounted shifters. I've driven an ML with this mustache shifter and its really easy to get use to it.
