06 E350 Odd Transmission Behavior

Search function isn't working for me so I couldn't find anything on this.

First, its a 2006 E350 Sport.

Weird problem this AM. Coming off the freeway and stopped at the light. Then went to pull forward and the transmission wouldn't shift out of first gear. Pulled over, put it in park, then back into drive, still nothing. Also would not change from C to S modes. Stopped car, turned it off and everything worked fine.

I'm at 55k miles and have not had the transmission flushed yet. I'm assuming the tranny fluid is low. I'm also out of warranty (yeah that sucks) and hoping this isn't something more serious. I really dont have a spare 5500 floating around to dedicate to a replace/rebuild if thats the worst problem.

I have a pretty decent indy I can take it to so I might just start there, but was curious if you experts might have any input.

Torque converter may cause intermittent limp mode, fault codes will be stored in the TCM identifying problem. The TC can be isolated with SDS for definitive diagnose. In addition, I strongly recommend you replace the ATF (MB recommends replacing @ 39000) – approved for 722.9 (7-speed) MB part #001989680310, Fuchs Titan 4134, Fuchs Titan EG 134, or Shell 134.

BTW, this thread is for 212 (2010 E-Class) you need to post in the 211 thread https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211-20/

Group down the street scoped it and said there was a failure with the valve body. Rough quote of 1500-1600 to fix. I'm 5k over warranty so I think I'm going to head over to the stealership to see if they will fix this given its a failure not due to wear, maybe I might get lucky.

FYI Update. Dealership covered the costs of the parts, I paid for labor. Still ended up saving a good amount of money on a vehicle that just dropped out of warranty. MB Goodwill worked some magic for me.

Kind of funny in post #3 you call them stealerships, But your tune changes and you call them dealershipin post #4 when the service department help you out and goodwilled the part with your car being 5k out of warnenty. Those stealers are horriable people. How about i come to your place of work and yell and cry about how much you charge for your services or products... this issue is getting so old
