Headlamp light switch
Good Afternoon Everyone:
I was wondering if the entire headlamp light switch of the new E class illuminate or just the actual switch itself. For some reason these symbols for P, A, etc. are not lit up at night on my vehicle.

Only the switch knob itself is lighted. The escutcheon is not and this is something I can't understand. The escutcheon should be lit so you can see in what position the switch is set. My wife's SL is unlit too.

If you leave it on "A", when you let someone park the car for you, often they think they have to turn the lights off. When you get the car back, you assume it's still on "A" and you're driving without lights. Always check the position afterwards.

As the saying goes, "been there done that". Good advice....

The headlamp switch only illuminates on the center of the knob. Although the outer ring does not illuminate, the ambient illumination running along the dash trim just above does a good job of illuminating the ring. Try setting the ambient illumination to a higher setting, and that will do the trick.

But it has been the same for several models, probably the "A" setting being the only difference from really old cars and the A has been there at least from the W211, likely earlier.
