2010 E550 Middle Console Question

Hello - I have a 2010 E550 and the center console(between the driver and passenger seats) doesn't open up all the time when pulling the lever.

It usually wont open up in the morning without 5/ 10 tries, and then it works during the day, but jams up again after that. We have tried WD40 and the dealer tried a non liquid product, but with no success.

Anyone else having this problem , and any ideas how to solve it? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Let the dealer fix it under warranty.

I asked the dealer and he said it (the console and all related parts of it ) was part of the car(built in) -not separate pieces-handle,lever, console etc , so it would likely be a large job to get it out of the car? I wondered if anyone else has had the problem and if there are any simpler solutions. Thanks so much for the reply/replies.

Have not seen of this issue here or heard about it elsewhere. My 2010 E will be delivered in Feb so I have no experience with this. However its not your problem that is a big deal to fix even if it is. Have him fix it without question. Its his problem not yours. Where are you located??

Thanks for the reply. I am in California. I don't really want to have them take out the whole console etc if it can be avoided as it is an annoying problem, but intermittent. Sometimes they do more harm to the car than good when they try to fix things like this , and I always worry about them creating rattling noice, so if you or anyone has ideas to try as an easy fix, I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

Hello and thanks so much for the info / link on this. This sounds exactly like my problem. Since I am new to this site, can you please let me know if this info/bulletin type of info is from Mercedes (?), and if I take the info into my Mercedes dealer will they know how to look it up on their system and fix the problem ?

Although I have printed out a copy , I was just curious if they have this info in their system etc ? Please advise and thanks again very much for the reply and super info.

Yes, they will have it. Just in case print out the bulletin and bring it into the dealer.

As a fellow 550 owner- How is your car? Do you have any rattles from the interior or thumps from the trunk? Is this your first 550?

Thanks alot. Did you have the same problem, and did the fix work?

The car is excellent overall in my view. I occasionally hear a thump from the trunk now that you mentioned it, but its very rare so I didn't think anything of it(and mainly on a sharp turn). What causes this ?

With regard to rattles, I hear a very slight one when going slowly ( ie 10/15 MPH ) but really only hear it with no AC or radio on, and it stops as I pick up speed, so perhaps its the engine sound to some degree(no sure?)(right side of car).

I had an older S previously, and I think this car is a great one for the price/power and capabilities etc.

Hope these comments help-Pls advise your views re all the above.

e550 thump in trunk

saw recent exchange between emilner & mb550 ...... latter referred to a thump in trunk ....i have heard that too but only when i am reversing & at the point i apply the brakes .....anyone else noticed this ?
other than that i was hearing a creaking sound below the 'floorboards' where you would rest your left foot when driving ...i would hear it when going over even the slightest bump at a low speed for the first 10-15 minutes after the car was started in the morning or when cold .....the dealer caught it & spoke of it being in the heatshield area near the front suspension ....no creaking now....

sorry you all are having these noises. maybe a good solution (besides warranty) is to turn up the radio and drive faster. the engine noise should cover it up nicely.

No console issues here and although subtle, the engine note is there and nice. This is my second 550 and I fn love that engine.

I love the engine, but man is it quiet. Sit in an XF, it sounds LOUD, the exhaust is off a Corvette soundtrack. I cannot for the life of me hear the exhaust inside the car, engine yes, exhaust no. If you listen from the street it sounds great pulling away...

you need your ears then checked my friend! Granted it is not loud like my 560hp mustang or my 911S, but if you dip into that throttle, you can hear it. I happen to have exceptional hearing though!
