E350 with mbtex or leather?

Artico Leather, they have the same name for it here in Europe. It's a part of the taxi-package.
The worst name for vinyl is BMW's, Letherette. But I think they call it Sensatec now.

You have the P2 package on your car. P2 package automatically includes leather upholstery.

I'm gonna have to correct myself. Just because you have the P2 package does not automatically give you leather upholstery. If you have a 550 you get the leather interior as the only choice. My bad...

Anyway not to beat a dead horse; a acquaintance of mine returned his lease and got slapped with a pretty hefty bill because MB decided that the leather on his car was too worn out and stretched that they had to redoing some of the seats. I personally had MB Tex on all my cars and I really like it. Super durable, super easy to clean (my interior is cashmere) and a lot of people confuse it with real leather. With that all being said I'd like to try out the leather in my next car.

Hi,
we had a GL 450 with the "man made leather" and even though it looks like the real deal, sitting in it, especially in hot environment (was living in the UAE back then) was terror. For me never again.

I'm gonna re-iterate with the smell thing. M-B Tex, along with most any Vinyl interior car, can give me a headache, good Leather smells intoxicating, as gross as that is, considering what it in fact is.

Now we have upgraded fries with vinegar (borrowed from the British) to something more lethal. It is called "poutine". It is fries with cheese curds and gravy on top. Two helpings will close an artery and it makes a Big Mac look like health food. It is more predominant in Eastern Ontario and Quebec but has found it's way through most of the country. Half a dozen Molsons with an order of "poutine" makes for fine dining to the fearless.

MB Tex is good enough
Have had three cars with leather and all required cleaning and protecting on a regular basis. Still showed wear, especially if exposed to the elements. Have a friend with a car with leather who is having noticable wear with only 40,000 miles on the car-and he is a nut about maintaining his cars.
I checked out both leather and MBTex interiors and IMO no real difference unless you knew it. Also, the $1,500 premium just for leather seemed awfully exhorbitant, even for M-B.
As for odor, my car was built seven weeks ago and purchased 30 days ago and has very little odor inside, just the normal new car smell and it is gradually going away.
BTW, lots of the doors, seats, dash, etc. materials are plastic, even in cars with leather "seats/interiors."

Do miss the leather smell but not enough to make up for the quick wearing leather. I'm only 155lbs and still the leather showed wear after only 17,000 miles. I know the standard MB leather wears better than the soft Nappa.

As for cleaning, The maint I use on leather is just to wipe with a damp cloth occassionally. Looked like the day I took delivery after 4 years. But, you did get to your bottom line and that was you did not or could not pay for it. Tex is about the best fake leather there is but its still fake and is still plastic. It does wear and it does stain and my take is that it requires as much or more care than leather. It also does not breathe does not smell like leather and does fade.

Honestly, more owners should complain to M-B about dropping the Leather inserts they put in the pre-'07 W211's. Really gives you the best of both worlds.

After having the MB Tex for 5 months now, my main complaint is that my clothes stick, especially work out type clothing and I then have to lift my butt up and adjust myself.
A hassle, but the E 350 will eventually be my wifes baby hauler so the cleanability is excellent.
Best fake leather out there but my next Merc will have leather.

One thing for sure people don't buy MB tex because of affordability. I'm sure it isn't a deal breaker when buying an E class. I really think many people just don't give damn if it's leather , as long as the feel and look are good. I am one of them now and I didn't mind saving $2500.00 on the option price. For some reason leather is $1,000.00 more in Canada than the US.

If one specifically wants leather, then go for it.

As a Montrealer presently vacationing in Newport & Palm Desert, I cannot tell you how weird it is reading your post about MontreaL poutine. ;-)
