E-Class not as safe as I expected

The results from the EuroNCAP test on the new E-Class are little disappointing for me. To offer marginal protection for whiplash injuries (what happened to the NECK-PRO system?!?!) and in a side pole-crash test...:

The harder thing is to see that the Chevrolet Cruze passed these tests much better.

Also the MB GLK offered similar protection.

Your conclusion of the test results is not entirely accurate. For some reason, the "PRE-SAFE" system was deactivated during the test program. Even still, for frontal impacts, the driver was offered good or adequate protection in all categories. For side car impacts, head, chest, abdomen and pelvis were all rated as good (highest category). For the more severe side pole impact, the only "marginal" category was the chest, but all other areas (head, neck, abdomen, pelvis) were either good or adequate. I wonder if the PRE-SAFE would have improved the whiplash ratings.

Also note that this is the european test program; not the official IIHS or NHTSA program recognized in the US, who have not yet tested the W212. Interesting to see how the results will compare.

I wouldn't be too concerned about these test results; they have often been criticized for not reflecting "real-world" crash conditions. Should the unfortunate accident happen, chances are high you'll fare much better in your MB than most of the competition. And with Tele-Aid, emergency response will be on the scene quickly.

PS. did you note the hazard lights automatically turn on following the crash?

Porsche Macan S SportDesign / Ex M-B's: 11 & 10 & 06 E350's, 02 S500
Very surprised about the rear protection, other M-B's always get top scored in that department. Why would Pre-Safe be deactivated?

I thought it would do better as well, and the frontal score isn't all that great with the yellows in two areas, but M-B's never do good in Standardized Tests, it's all about "real world" for them.
