What should I offer?

Looking at E350, 4dr luxury sedan with P1 package and wood/leather steering wheel. MSRP after dest charge is $54,005. How much should I offer? Edmunds lists invoice at approx. $50,200.

no less than $5K-$6K Off MSRP. Start with 6 to have a room for negotiation.

Good luck.

No one is willing to come off more than $2,000, and that is an out of town dealer. And I thought the economy was in the sh%*#er.

Yes the economy is bad but these cars are selling well. My MB dealer claims that 09 is the best year they have ever had. As you are finding out do not believe everything you see on these forums re pricing. I have always done better with my home town dealer as opposed to shopping a long distance from home.

Houston dealers still quite arrogant in both MB and Porsche brands

Despite some decent sales inventories are bloated for new cars and lots are half empty in the preowned side

Given that the new E is pretty new I just saw $1500 off msrp at local dealers and this is due to long time standing relationship with local dealer so don't spect much at this time at least on the E, CLS's have good deals right now.

Actually that may be true where you are but my dealer in PA has a very low level of new inventory. They say most go out within 2 weeks of arrival and more and more people are ordering cars to their spec because the inventory to choose from is so low. My 212 is on order. As far as used inventory sales they say are excellent and they make a concerted effort to keep the inventory a normal levels. I just took delivery of a new 2010 ML550, trading my 06 ML500. the 06 was gone 4 days after I took it in. This is a selective recession as so far as geographic area and occupations are concerned.
