Question COMAND SYSTEM

Unless the engine is running, my Comand system shuts down in approximately 2 -3 minutes, I guess, to conserve battery power while in accessory mode. The system shuts itself off whether you are in the process of copying music files to the registry, watching video, etc. This makes no sense.

Copying a few music CDs can take up to 1/2 hour or more. Why would you want the engine running, for example, to copy music or even watching a video while waiting to pick somebody up at the airport. Is this a normal function for the Comand system.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you take the key off from the ignition switch or does Comand switch off even if you leave the key in? I think my W221 Comand turns off after some 20 minutes, or earlier if the battery gets flat.

I have the keyless go option, P2, so the key is in my pocket...

Anyone figure out how to disable the auto turn-off for Comand?

Put the car in accessory mode, touch the start button w/o your foot on the brake. It will then stay in that mode for quite some time (I don't know how long exactly, I have used it for over 20 minutes).

If so then there is something wrong with your car. If you open the door does the radio go off? If it does then you are not in accessory mode.

Yes, when I open the door, the radio stays on! Then without warning, about 3 minutes later, the system shuts down. Any recording in process is aborted. It does not matter what mode Comand is in, i.e. NAV, radio, CD, SAT, or music register; system just shuts itself off.

Thanks again for your reply.

Maybe there is something wrong with the battery and the system detects that it is getting low on power? I don't know, wish I could help further....

agree. Mine also stays on in accessory mode for a long time. Think i was on a 30 or 40 min phone caall in accessory mode once with BT running. My radio turns off when I open the door with the engine off and not in accessory mode.
