Paint the stock ones the same color as the car. IMO the clear ones look cheap. You might even be able to get the Euro replacements that don't have the reflectors at all.

Clear....
Has anyone tried taking there side markers off yet? How do you do it?
I've looked in the manual but no information is provided, and I would hate to break the side marker while I'm removing it.

Side markers
I'm on my iPod typing this, so I can't quickly link it, but I posted a while back on how to do it. It's in a post called another new e550 or something like that.
I painted mine body color and it looks pretty good. I bought an extra set and had a body shop do it. They are a pain to change, that is why in the manual it tells you to go to a dealer. The big trick is that the bulb comes out before you can take it off of the car!
If you have an extra set, you can kind of see how it all works. Would've been really hard to figure out otherwise. You can do it without taking the wheel off (like I did), but it makes it much easier if you do.

Re-reading my post, I guess I don't really say how to do it. I turned the wheel in and then removed part of the inner plastic splash guard. You have to squeeze your hand in there and you have to twist to get the bulb out. It is very awkward and you must contort your hand, but the bulb twists out like any other bulb. Once the bulb is out there is a plastic bracket that comes undone. If you have an extra set like I did, it will make sense and you can figure it out.
Hope that helps.

Well, I can only show it to you on a 211, but you can do it with any car. I took it to a Tint Shop that has access to the heavier duty tints used for lights, it cost probably like $20 or so (maybe that was for each side, if so it sounds like I got ripped).
I figured it'd be a cleaner look, and the black flows with my car better. Plus it's more hassle free, and cheap. You can do it yourself easily as well if you have the proper Tint.

Clear would look really nice but if you replace the side marker and the bulb inside, would it void warranty? Because I was thinking of doing the same

You don't have any pics or a shot of that "plastic" piece you were talking about do you?
I would appreciate any help.

Here are a couple of pics. The lens is held in by a plastic bracket that is on a hinge. I circled the piece you have to undo in order for the bracket to unhinge. The second picture is of the bracket 'open.' The bracket can actually come completely separate from the lens. Hopefully these pictures help. Sorry they are alittle blurry, but I think you should get the idea.

After an hour of trying I was finally able to get the housing out. Sucks though I accidently broke the smoked side marker gonna order a new one.
Another problem came when I was trying to put everything back
How on earth do you put the marker back with the black piece hooked on?
the black piece is larger than the bumper cutout so there's no way I could put everthing back with the thing hook on first.
But it's also impossible to hook the black piece if I put it in first.
Am I missing anything??

The black plastic housing acually stays inside the bumper and then you hook the clear side marker into the black plastic through the openning.
It tooks me a couple of tries to get this to hook in correctly.

Are there any tips? or I just need to try a few more times.
There are 2 clips that need to hook on to the bumper, should I hook those first or should I hook the black bracket first?

1. Start of with you holding the black plastic within the bumper.
2. Take the outside portion of the side marker and go in on an angle with the side towards the front of the car going in first.
3. Make sure the plastic hooks on the side marker catch the black plastic piece you are holding on the inside of the bumper.
4. Once its hooked, just swing the other side of the side marker until it clips into the black plastic piece. (It should end up flush with the bumper.)
It took be a few tries to get it.
Look at an earlier post with pictures of the pieces attached to each other. It might make more sense to you.

I have a white car, and I hated the orange markers, I mean hated. I bought the clear markers off of eBay w/ the silvered amber bulbs. I didn't want to take off the wheel well splash guard, so I took the car to a body shop that will do small jobs for me. I think the clear markers look excellent, particularly w/ the white car, and if you ask me, htey don't look cheap at all. I need to get some pics posted and let you see for yourself.
